WildStorm’s expansion into the gaming market gave fans new ways to interact with its characters and universe beyond the comic book page. The most ambitious effort was WildStorms: The Expandable Super-Hero Collectible Card Game, launched in 1995. The game allowed players to build decks around characters and teams from across the WildStorm Universe, including the WildC.A.T.s, StormWatch, Team 7, Gen 13, and WetWorks. Over its lifespan, the game grew from the Limited and Unlimited base sets to Conflict!, Image Universe, Legends, Best of WildStorms, and a variety of promotional cards. WildStorm characters also appeared in other collectible card games, including Image OverPower and Spawn PowerCardz, expanding the company’s presence during the 1990s trading card game boom. The WSCCG was particularly ambitious, offering not only traditional head-to-head battles but campaign games, multiplayer games, team games, and even a solitaire expansion. In 1998, WildStorm teamed up with Wizards of the Coast to bring an new property, C-23, to life!

WildStorm’s gaming history was not limited to cards. Its characters found their way into a variety of games and formats, reflecting the changing trends of the hobby market. WildStorm was represented through games collectible POGs, and later HeroClix, where fans could collect miniature versions of characters and bring them into tabletop battles. These products ranged from simple collectible games aimed at children and casual fans to more complex strategy games designed for dedicated players. Many of these games were produced by outside companies, making WildStorm’s gaming history a surprisingly broad collection of licenses, promotions, and partnerships.

The relationship between WildStorm and gaming continued well beyond the Image Comics era. As WildStorm grew under DC, its newer properties also entered the tabletop world. The Authority Role Playing Game, published by Guardians of Order, allowed players to enter the world of The Authority in an entirely different way, creating adventures rather than simply collecting cards or figures. From the original WildStorms CCG and Image OverPower to Fast Break, POGs, C-23, HeroClix, and role-playing games, WildStorm’s history in gaming followed the evolution of the hobby itself. Each game represents another attempt to take the characters and worlds created by WildStorm Productions and put them directly into the hands of fans.
